The Winners (and Losers) of the 2011 Golden Globe Awards!

I thought the 2011 Golden Globes was a roaring success, hosted once again by Ricky Gervais, who kicked off the event with some great commentary on some of the more terrible nominees like The Tourist. However, this year the British funnyman barely managed to walk the fine line between some totally offensive jokes to laughworthy quips.

On top of that we were often left wondering why Gervais would inexplicably disappear for huge chunks of time, unlike in 2010 when his presence seemed to dominate the podium for most of the whole show.

Had Ricky seriously pi**ed somebody off this time around?! I think so…

Even my pal, CNN’s Piers Morgan tweeted curiously:“Gervais not seen for an hour now. #whatthehellhappened.” Followed up by: “Where is Ricky Gervais? Seriously.”

Perhaps it was this comment that might have him in hot water with some of Hollywood’s elite, when he said: Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor - two heterosexual actors pretending to be gay, so the complete opposite of some famous scientologists then,” Gervais said before adding, “My lawyers helped me with the wording of that joke. They’re not here.”

You could hear the shock reaction pouring from the audience as they gasped at his slanderous humor. Gervais is a very funny guy indeed, but attacking religion or sexuality should never be up for laughs, I personally feel he went a bit too far this time. I had visions of the comedian being reprimanded backstage for his unwarranted remarks, at least that would explain his disappearing act!

After Gervais finally returned to our screens appearing slightly ‘subdued’ Piers continued his tweeting with, “Re Ricky “MIA” Gervais – blimey, hope this isn’t what they do to all Brits on TV in America. #bitesnails.” Well, let’s certainly hope not, eh Piers!

The big winner of the night was The Social Network, picking up four awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Score.

Glee stole the show on the TV side, taking home Best Television Series – Comedy or Musical, while Jane Lynch and Chris Colfer received best supporting actress and actor wins.

Robert De Niro accepted the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement from Matt Damon for his performances in movies such as Taxi Driver, The Godfather, Part II and Goodfellas. The actor joked that his less noted films such as FrankensteinJacknife, and Little Fockers were missing from the presentation reel.

Michael Douglas looked well on the road to recovery and received a standing ovation as he took to the stage to present the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Drama.

Douglas, pictured (right) posing with his gorgeous wife Catherine Zeta Jones, and another happy couple, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, won huge laughs from the audience when he joked about his warm reception, he said: “There’s got to be an easier way to get a standing ovation.

Thank you all very much. I’m really very, very happy to be here tonight.”

Aww, and we were happy to see you there too Michael!

Brit Hunk Charlie Hunnam to Play Christian Grey!

Excellent news folks, British actor Charlie Hunnam is set to star in the highly anticipated adaptation of EL James‘ novel ‘Fifty Shades of Grey‘!

The casting bombshell that the ‘Sons of Anarchy‘ hunk will play Grey was dropped moments after announcing Dakota Johnson as the lead actress, when Johnson took to twitter, tweeting: “The gorgeous and talented Charlie Hunnam will be Christian Grey in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey,”

Hunnam’s film credits include Pacific Rim, Children of Men, Cold Mountain, Nicholas Nickelby and Green Street Hooligans.

The announcement rounds out the major casting for the highly anticipated project, which is being directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and produced by Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti alongside author James. Kelly Marcel wrote the screenplay.

Fifty Shades follows college student Anastasia Steele (Johnson) as she begins a racy relationship with the 27-year-old billionaire, Grey. Fifty Shades of Grey will be released by Focus Features on Aug. 1, 2014, in North America.

Hot stuff, I say!

Sons of Anarchy‘ returns for its sixth season on Sept. 10.

Charlie Hunnam Drops ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’

According to a statement from the studios behind the film, Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam will no longer play Christian Grey in the film version of Fifty Shades of Grey.

Universal Pictures and Focus Features said in a joint statement: “The filmmakers of FIFTY SHADES OF GREY and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.”

The 33-year-old British actor was the second casting announcement for the steamy film adaptation of E.L. James‘ erotic trilogy, after James took to Twitter revealing that Dakota Johnson would play Anastasia Steele on September 2.

“The gorgeous and talented Charlie Hunnam will be Christian Grey,” she wrote.

Almost immediately, the actors and producers faced severe backlash from devoted readers, many of which hoped for other stars like Robert Pattinson and Ryan Gosling to bring the book fantasy to life.

A source close to Hunnam counters that the exit is “truly due to scheduling. The role of Christian Grey requires a massive time commitment, a trilogy role in which Charlie and his team were originally very aware of from the start and a major consideration in his hesitancy for taking the role.

Charlie is the lead in a massive TV series and his loyalty will always be to Sons of Anarchy, the SOA family and fans.”

One possible factor for exiting the coveted role? The attention got to be too much for the hunky Sons of Anarchy star.

The season 6 finale of FX’s ‘Sons of Anarchy’ began shooting Oct. 11, one day before Universal Pictures and Focus Features made the announcement. ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ is due to hit theaters Aug. 1, 2014.

Author E L James responded briefly on Twitter: “I wish Charlie all the best. x,” she wrote. (It’s unclear whether her tweet 17 minutes before that one was related: “Okay girls and boys – hold on to your hats – it’s about to get serious…”)

My sources tell me however, that this was not a sudden decision, and Hunnam’s role in the film was never a done deal… Oo-er this is getting juicy…

British director Guy Ritchie has his eyes set on hottie Charlie Hunnam for the lead role in Warner Bros.’ upcoming ‘King Arthur‘ saga.

Hunnam, going into his seventh and final season as the prince of the motorcycle club in Sons Of Anarchy, will next have the opportunity to ‘rise to king’ being Ritchie’s top choice and is in final negotiations to play the medieval warrior.

The epic Warner Bros project hatched by Joby Harold and intended to span six films sources say. The studio had recently tried to get the film off the ground with Colin Farrell as Arthur and Gary Oldman as Merlin.

Hunnam’s recent film projects have included Guillermo del Toro’s robot-versus-monster film Pacific Rim and the upcoming Crimson Peak. He’s also known as the guy to sign on for and then promptly drop out of the big-screen adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey.

‘Sons of Anarchy’ starts up its seventh and final season on Sept. 9

Meryl Streep Is Helping Carey Mulligan Through Motherhood!

British star Carey Mulligan says motherhood has been “pretty stressful” so far. Oo-er!

The 30-year-old actress, who is currently promoting her new movie “Suffragette”, gave birth to her baby daughter Evelyn earlier this month but has been struggling to balance her new role as a mother with her globe-trotting career.

While many mothers in the U.K. and U.S. have at least three months maternity leave, Mulligan and her newborn baby, Evelyn Grace, were nudged early from the domestic nest at a mere five weeks.

There are downsides to being a movie star after all, apparently, including unmovable publicity obligations. Fortunately, the Oscar-nominated actress and her newborn have been accompanied around the globe during their Suffragette P.R. duties by co-star Meryl Streep, the infallible Oscar winner and mother of four. And on Monday evening, Mulligan revealed the extent to which Streep has been helping her through new motherhood.

While accepting an award at Elle’s Women in Hollywood event on Monday, Mulligan admitted to the audience that “the last couple of weeks have been pretty stressful.

Telling Vanity Fair: “Doing press and doing it with a tiny baby, timing has been very important and babies do what they want, which is a challenge,” Mulligan continued. “But it’s really helpful when you have Meryl Streep backstage at events shouting at people on your behalf—telling them to hurry the hell up because you have a nursing mother here.”

After Streep presented Mulligan with the award, the new mother turned to her co-star and said, “This is a massive pinch-me moment . . . I think it’s safe to say that there’s not a woman here tonight who doesn’t hold you in the absolute highest esteem.”

Streep returned the praise in her opening remarks, telling Mulligan, “I’m in awe of your talent . . . I really am. I’m also in awe of your voice, which is like warm caramel poured over the English language.

“The last couple of weeks have been pretty stressful. Doing press and doing it with a tiny baby, timing has been very important and babies do what they want, which is a challenge,” she said.

The blonde beauty said her “Suffragette” co-star Meryl Streep, 66, who has four grown-up children, Henry, Mamie, Grace and Louisa, has been “helpful”.

“It’s really helpful when you have Meryl Streep backstage at events shouting at people on your behalf, telling them to hurry the hell up because you have a nursing mother here.

“I applaud your taste in material and how you hold out for stuff,” she said. “Even when you were young and didn’t have any money, you just did things that mattered.”

Streep continued by saying, “I can’t wait to see what Carey Mulligan will give us next, what new woman she’ll give birth to. I mean, in addition to the very beautiful and sweet smelling Evy Grace.”

Last week, Mulligan admitted that having Streep on set was a bit nerve-wracking. “Everyone’s very excited all day, all of the crew, all of the quite scary crew members who are sort of big, tough guys,” she said. “They are all very suddenly quite buzzy and excited.”

Suffragette opens in U.S. theaters on October 23.

It also boasts landscaped gardens, an outdoor swimming pool and fireplace and numerous patios.

Part of a housing tract developed by Charles E. Toberman in the 1920s, the two-story Mission Revival-style home was renovated and restored by previous owner and musician-turned-developer Tony Clearwater.
